Wes Morris has been racing Jr. Dragsters since his 8th birthday in 2004. He rowed through the 12.90 class the first two years, struggling as most do, where a .100 something light is a good place to be. By 2008 he was well into an 8.90 car but still haunted by inconsistent lights. To help with his reaction time, he bought a set of staggered spindles and a full-size Portaree to go along with the hand held Eliminator.
Like any other sport, practice is the key, and Wes dug in by practicing every day. One thing he fine tuned over time was changing the rollout to accommodate the different tracks. Since Jr. Dragsters are so sensitive to changes in altitude, he was able to dial it in and really get a handle on his reaction times. He has won five races, made the semi finals at the Western Conference Finals, averaging in the .020's all day long. He has nailed two perfect lights so far this season.
Wes also writes the "Burnout to Turnout " column in Jr. Dragster, the NHRA Jr. magazine, and works on Bucky Austin's Nostalgia Funny Car Team as well as Steve Plueger's AAFC.
